Chained

6/29/2013
Woodland Cemetery
Des Moines, IA

A chained mouseleum door. Makes you wonder if they're trying to keep people from getting in... or keep something from getting out.

Schmitt & Henry Manufacturing Co.

8/27/2011
Des Moines, IA

From Wikipedia (so you know it must be true):

The Schmitt and Henry Manufacturing Company is a complex of three historic buildings located in downtown Des Moines, Iowa. The complex was built in three stages from 1901-1914 by Schmitt-Henry, who manufactured furniture. Sealy Mattress Company took over the building in 1973 after Schmitt-Henry moved to West Des Moines. Hubbell Reality purchased the complex in 1994 for $75.000. Plans were approved in 2009 to convert the complex, as well as the Hawkeye Transfer Company Warehouse, into loft apartments. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.

Like Cola

6/8/2013
Ottumwa, IA
Like Cola Truck

It's not every day you come across a semi trailer emblazoned with the logo of a defunct soda brand from nearly thirty years ago. Well, unless your daily commute to work happens to take you by the spot where this one is parked. Obviously someone still misses Like after all these years, why else keep this around? Maybe it's still full of vintage Like from 1984.

Barn & Rafters

Urbandale, IA
Corner of Meredith Dr & NW 128th
5/25/13

Anyone taking 128th out to Grimes has probably noticed this collapsing barn on the north-west corner with Meredith. Time and neglect aren't working fast enough though. The barn will likely soon be bulldozed to make way for more urban sprawl in the form of a strip mall, town homes or an office park. I'd say a Casey's but there's already on across the street.

Locker & Groceries

Lyman, IA

I wonder what their produce section is like?
